Freedom Rock

On November 11, 2018, residents of Warren County proudly dedicated a solid (29 ton!) piece of art at Warrior Run Golf Course. Designed and painted by Iowan Ray “Bubba” Sorensen II, Freedom Rock joins a family of boulders either already in place or planned for every county in the state, each serving as a tribute and salute to our military and veterans. Warren County’s Freedom Rock is number 78 of 99, and features images of the American flag, Medal of Honor recipient Junior Dean Edwards (an Indianola native who was killed in action in 1951), the USS Iowa battleship, and a golfer with a prosthetic leg (signifying the Golf for Injured Veterans Everywhere Foundation).

Warren County’s Freedom Rock was dedicated on Veteran’s Day 2018.

The late Mark Burke officially sponsored the Warren County Freedom Rock, working with many people to see it through to its arrival and location at the former Warrior Run property. Our Norwalk Hometown Pride group was supportive of this project, most notably by leading the development of the site around the rock to create the Warren County Veterans Memorial.
